Bio

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and certified school counselor with 8 years experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults.  I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of North Texas, a Master of Arts degree in Teaching from West Texas A&M University, and a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Angelo State University.  Prior to becoming a school counselor, I taught kindergarten, as well as high school Career and Technology courses.  As a high school counselor for 4 years, I worked with students and their families to address social, behavioral, and academic issues.  Additionally, I was a member of Amarillo ISD’s Trauma Team, providing assistance to various campuses during times of crisis.

Additional professional experience includes individual counseling, group counseling, and psychiatric assessment and evaluation at a psychiatric hospital.  Utilizing primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy, I conducted psychoeducation and process groups on child, adolescent, and adult units.  I worked with individuals and groups to address issues such as depression, anxiety, mood disorders, anger management, grief and loss, physical and sexual abuse, PTSD, parenting skills, and adolescent issues.

In private practice, I incorporate an individualized approach dependent upon the specific needs of each client.  Specialized training in Trauma-Focused CBT and mindfulness, and Play Therapy allows me to help clients achieve positive outcomes, growth, and success in their personal lives.  I believe counseling can strengthen families, heal relationships, and promote growth in individuals.
